Thống Nhất railway - enjoy a slow-paced Vietnam

Vietnam has a national railway named Thống Nhất railway departing from Ha Noi station (the North) to Saigon station (Ho Chi Minh city - the South). In Vietnamese, “Thống Nhất” means “unification”, intending the unification between the North and the South after the end of the Vietnam war (1975). The railway stretches through dozens of provinces like a long river running along the S-shaped country.

The sound of train-whistle is the special sound in Vietnam, which brings people temporarily to escape from the world. The sound of the train-whistle conveys stories of seeing off at the train stations throughout the land of Vietnam. The train station stored many memories of  Vietnam, including the moment of separation between Vietnamese soldiers of their beloved relatives before going to the battlefield in the Vietnam war.

The journey traveling on the national road is a journey of cities whereas the journey moving on the railway is a journey of Vietnamese nature. The ripe rice fields, small rivers, mountain ranges, grape farms, dragon fruits orchards, beaches, etc in the Coastal Central are the most beautiful scenes people could look through the windows on the trains.

The picture of wet train stations in the evening rain drives people to experience such a movie scene. Train travel will bring you to a slow-paced journey and enjoy a slow-paced Vietnam.

Sitting on the train, you could meet many coastal people who like to be conveyed by trains. They use dialects to communicate. Their face is thin but full of life because they have to survive in the most unfavorable place in Vietnam and suffer many natural disasters, especially typhoons from the East Sea. Hence, many of them have to depart from their hometown  to earn their living in the South. And they choose the train for their important journeys. Thống Nhất railway became a piece of their memories.
