Vietnam: Big Cities, Small Cities

Yellow lights of lampposts, millions of motorbikes moving with the sound of horns, street vendors of Vietnamese cuisine and street restaurants, and windy squares at night have become spiritual pictures of the cities of Vietnam. These also have been a part of the national memory and national identity of Vietnam.  Vietnamese people use the word “city” (thành phố) to refer to two kinds of city: the central city which is considered as a province called big city, and the other is the county city is an administrative unit of district called small city. So shadows of the city spread out the map of Vietnam, from mountain provinces to the hurly-burly urban areas. Many of the stunning landscapes, historical places, and tourist attractions of the country are located in those cities.

On the map of Vietnam city, there are dozens of small cities which contain interesting geographical characteristics: The cities of mountains in the Northwest and Highland Central, the cities of sea in Coastal Central and the cities of rivers in the Southwest. Stepping in these cities helps you to get the true breath of the contemporary life of Vietnam. At least, you could enjoy some traditional food at a right taste and in the right its motherland. Hue, Hoi An, Da Lat, Phan Thiet and Nha Trang are the most famous small cities in the Vietnam city map.

The big cities which contain longer stories of Vietnam. Ha Noi, is a shadow of a capital city, tells the story of an ancient town and traditional, original urban area in Viet Nam. Ho Chi Minh city, the biggest city throughout Vietnam, is an incarnate of a new, open cosmopolitan city and the place of the confluence of flows of Eastern culture and Western culture. Ho Chi Minh city is considered as a compassionate city which embraces the livelihood of millions of Vietnamese people nationwide.   Hai Phong, is well known with “the city of red phoenix flowers' ', “the port city”, expresses the imprint of French -style architecture. The picture of trains traveling through the inner city by pavements is a most interesting scene in Hai Phong. Da Nang recounts the story of the new city as a young man who is full of will to change his fate, where possess the beautiful bridges and East Asia lifestyle. Can Tho is the meek city on the map of Vietnam city. It brings the cultural scene of the delta, where the sound of boat machines is the sound of breath of that land.
